The Open is here!  This precursor to South Central Regionals and ultimately The 2012 Reebok CrossFit Games begins this Wednesday, February 22nd. This year, we are all in it together!  All of our athletes will be taking on The Open WODs in classes on Thursdays and Fridays.  We are calling on each of you to join us in registering for The Open, tracking your workout progress and interacting with the CrossFit community internationally.  We cannot think of a better way to celebrate our sport and connect with the community at large!  This is your chance to see what The Sport of Fitness is all about.  The affiliate with the most athletes in our region will receive tickets for each of their registered athletes to the South Central Regionals in Houston, TX.  The affiliate with the most athletes regsitered worldwide will receive tickets to The 2012 Reebok CrossFit Games!  Help us show the world how strong and amazing our community truly is!

Vicki is one of Coach Jen Shaw's Lean Lifting athletes.  These ladies took on a 30 Day Challenge to get ripped.  Vicki took the challenge very seriously and saw tremendous results!  Vicki is now ready for swimsuit season!

"Trying to eat right over the Christmas holidays has always been tough for me and this year was no exception. When Jen suggested the "Get Ripped" challenge I was "all in" because I was sick of how I felt and how often I was cheating.The challenge took place during the month of January and consisted of extra workouts during the week, food logging everyday with an accountability partner, and eating Paleo but with the exception of no fruit (!!) and no nuts (!!).Prior to the challenge (and before all the Christmas temptations) I felt like my diet was pretty much on target and probably about 85% Paleo but I had reached a plateau and my body was still holding on to extra fat, especially in my stomach and hips.I think the thing that made the most difference for me was not being able to have fruit or nuts - I immediately realized how they were my "go to" foods when I didn't feel like cooking and that I ate way too much of both.

At the end of the challenge I had lost 7 pounds and an inch off my hips and my waist.What's been most noticeable to me is my belly - I've always had a pooch that's gotten larger with age and now it's much smaller - I'm convinced that limiting my fruits and nuts made a big difference in that area.>I'm so excited by the results of just one month that I'm continuing the challenge on my own now!"

We are very excited to welcome Nyki Helmcamp to our coaching team.  Nyki has been part of our community for over 2 years.  Nyki brings extensive training history with her to CrossFit Central.  Many of you have had the chance to work with Nyki over the past year and we can now officially welcome her as a Coach! 

Nyki Helmcamp graduated from Texas State University with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Biology and a minor in Exercise and Sports Science.  She is CrossFit Level I and PT certified through Cooper Institute.  She has participated in various sports her entire life and is motivated to continue a path of elite health and fitness.  No matter your stage in life or athletic endeavor, one-on-one or group training, Nicole is ready to utilize her passion in helping you achieve any goal.

Jeff lost 30 pounds, 6% body fat & 6 inches

"When I started at CrossFit Central ATX, I was doing pull-ups with the giant black assistance band. Now I am pulling off strict pull-ups and even kipping a few. I have dropped about 3 minutes off my mile time and around 7-8 minutes off my 5k time. My deadlift has gone from sub-200 to just shy of 400, and I have added about 100 pounds to my back squat. I was surprised to find out that I really love the lifting side of CrossFit.

It’s hard to express how positive my experience has been with CrossFit Central ATX.The personal transformation has been pretty remarkable, and I am still pleasantly surprised and encouraged by the intense level of community. I went joined Central ATX looking to get in a workout and go home, but it has proven to be so much more.  I continue to be impressed with the quality of the coaching. Without exception, the coaches have done a terrific job at meeting the needs of a huge range of clients. It is no easy task to simultaneously coach a seasoned athlete and total “n00b”. Saturday, March 10th is your chance to showoff your kettlebell skills.  RedBlack Gym and Kettlebell Underground present the 2nd annual Kettlebell Underground Challenge.  Coach Chris Hartwell and Coach Randal Setzler have created three Kettlebell WODs sure to test your fitness and skill.  This event is great for anyone with Kettlebell or CrossFit experience.  We dare to enduce a rivalry between Kettlebell athletes and indoor CrossFit athletes.  Come prove that your training is superior and take the title!  Last year our friends at Punch Gym came and dominated both the male and female categories.  We love the community involvement and invite our fellow athletes to come participate.  Our trophy is sure to inspire your workouts and make you proud to use a kettlebel!  This challenge is open to the public!

The 2012 Reebok CrossFit Games Open begins, February 22nd.  The officially marks the beginning of "Games Season".  Most CrossFit Games hopefuls have been training since the day after the CrossFit Games in July, 2011.  Even for those athletes, things are beginning to get a little more serious.  As The Open begins, so does the excitement of testing yourself each week and being able to compare your scores with fellow CrossFitters across the world! 

All of our athletes will be taking on The Open in classes during February and March.  Thursday and Friday classes will complete the WODs release for The Open each week.  Creat your profile on the Reebok CrossFit Games website to track your progress and see your ranking locally and internationally.  This is a unique opportunity to interact with the CrossFit community worldwide!  Sign up now!
